4. Delegation.

MLPOS member Dan Sutherland gave a presentation about the potential impact of the Islands Trust’s proposed expansion of raptor nest zones.

Motion. That Bob Coulson write a letter to Islands Trust protesting the process used so far to evaluate the number of nests and communicate with the property owners who would be affected by the proposed changes. Moved by Wally Foster, seconded by Roy Moore. Carried.

5. Business Arising.

Playground.

Art Curtis and Dave Harrison, along with Braedon Bigham, measured the two potential sites of the new playground equipment; one to the east and one to the south of the existing equipment. It was decided that the eastern location is the most appropriate.

Roy Moore suggested that Privateers Park be mapped out in advance of any future development in the park.

Community Survey.

Roy Moore presented the results of the survey conducted at the end of last year to ascertain what additional facilities residents would like to see in Magic Lake Estates. There were 293 responses. Of these, 211 were from members of MLPOS.

Roy will send the survey results to the directors.

Secretary.

Joanna Rogers will send out an email to the membership letting them know we are looking for someone to join our Board in the role of Secretary.

6. Governance.

No news or updates.

7. Financial Report.

Jean Deschenes presented reports for the month ending December 31, 2024. Everything is on track.

Motion to approve the Financial Report as presented. Moved by Roy Moore, seconded by Wally Foster. Carried.

8. Directors’ Reports.

Marina.

Wally Foster reported that things in the marina are pretty quiet. Some debris has collected in the marina but this is being taken care of by Dave Harrison.

Recreation.

Mike Wiley reported that rather than adding an additional pickle ball court, another dedicated time slot for pickle ball could be added.

Art Curtis reported that the new sign for Privateers Park should be ready this month. The design has been chosen. The sign needs to be ordered and the frame built.

Motion to accept the Directors’ Reports as presented. Moved by Dave Reed, seconded by Art Curtis. Carried.

9. Correspondence.

In light of the fact that correspondence is received via email these days, Bob Coulson suggested that this no longer be an agenda item. Joanna Rogers will forward all correspondence received by email to the Directors.

10. New Business.

Bob Coulson reported on the ongoing issues with booking a space to hold the monthly Directors’ Meetings.

It was suggested that a clubhouse could be built at the marina or a modular building could be set up in Privateers Park to create a permanent meeting space. This building could also have public toilets. This was something that came up in the survey.

11. Other.

Nothing to report.

12. Meeting adjourned at 5.20pm.

The next meeting is on February 3, 2025 in the Community Hall Lounge.
